CAYA Families,
Quick reminder - we are at GHES Saturday and Sunday for preseason training. The schedule is as follows:
11:00-12:10 - U8/U9 Boys
12:20-1:30 - U8/U9/U10 Girls
1:40-2:50 - U10 Boys
We will be on the upper fields. Please ensure your player is dressed appropriately. As much as we would like them to look the part, we also want them to be warm and able to participate for the full session.
As promised here is the link to the NCCL schedule:
http://soccer.sincsports.com/TTContent.aspx?tid=NCCLS&tab=1
Please note there may still be some changes due to coach conflicts but we are working through those as we speak. However, the majority of games are set.
We hope this helps and if you spot any issues with your child's team schedule, such as teams playing two games at same time slot, etc. please communicate with your director. Also, it is important that if your child is going to a miss a game that it is communicated ahead of time to the coach.
We look forward to seeing all the players this weekend at GHES

Thursday Training & Pre-season Reminder
Quick reminder that we will have CAYA training tonight. Please see schedule below.
NCYSA WAIVER REQUIRED - All those families who will be new to NYCSA Youth Academy this spring MUST bring an original completed waiver form with them to practice this evening and hand to their regional director. The form can be found on the left hand side of the blog.
PRE-SEASON TRAINING
This weekend we are out at Green Hope Elementary School in Cary both Saturday and Sunday from 11-3pm.
The schedule is as follows:
11:00-12:10pm - U8/U9 Boys
12:20-1:30pm - U8/U9/U10 Girls
1:40-2:50pm - U10 Boys
FA CUP MAGIC AND WHY WE ALL LOVE THIS GAME
The U’s who currently lie in 13th place in League Twoc (4th tier of English football) incredibly forced a replay against Manchester United following a resolute defensive display. They will now go to Old Trafford where they will earn a large sum of money in gate receipts and TV money which will allow them to be financially secure for a number of years.
Bradford City arguably pulled off one of the biggest shocks EVER in FA Cup history. They trailed Chelsea 2-0 towards the end of the first half. The Bantams pulled one back before the break to go in 2-1 down. No one would have predicted what ensued, as Bradford went on to score 3 more goals in front of 6,000 traveling fans. A result like this to a premier league side would have been a shock but to the 7th place team in League One (3rd tier) is even CRAZIER!
To keep the cup shock theme going, Middlesbrough of the Championship (2nd tier) managed to record a clean sheet against the Champions of England, while registering two goals in the second half to record a famous victory away from home at the Etihad.

- CAYA South - Davis Dr Park is CLOSED today. Therefore the south boys and girls will move indoors tonight to NetSports from 6:30-8pm. The session will focus heavily on agility, balance and coordination and also include a lot of technical work with the ball.
- CAYA U8/U9 North Girls - due to the rescheduled training and field restraints. The girls will train on Daly Sevens at the slightly earlier time of 4:45-6:15pm. Daly Sevens will be on your left as you pull into the park and is the 2nd turf field closest field to the road.
NCYSA WAIVER REQUIRED - All those families who will be new to NYCSA Youth Academy this spring MUST bring an original completed waiver form with them to practice this evening and hand to their regional director. The form can be found on the left hand side of the blog.

FA CUP MAGIC AND WHY WE ALL LOVE THIS GAME
This past weekend there were some unbelievable results in England
both in the FA Cup and football league. Here is a quick recap of the major shocks and a few quick highlight videos for your child to watch.
Cambridge Untied 0 Manchester
United 0 The U’s who currently lie in 13th place in League Twoc (4th tier of English football) incredibly forced a replay against Manchester United following a resolute defensive display. They will now go to Old Trafford where they will earn a large sum of money in gate receipts and TV money which will allow them to be financially secure for a number of years.

To keep the cup shock theme going, Middlesbrough of the Championship (2nd tier) managed to record a clean sheet against the Champions of England, while registering two goals in the second half to record a famous victory away from home at the Etihad.
Finally, one other result which goes to show why we love
this game of soccer… Blackpool who lie at the foot of the Championship table
(24th place) traveled to Watford. The Seasiders were leading 2-0 af half
time and must have thought the 3 points were in the bag, as they allowed Watford to score 3 goals
in the first 10 minutes of the second half on their way to a 7-2 victory.
I guess the saying is true, "Its a funny old game!"
Finally, there will be an NCCL schedule update out to everyone tomorrow.

Monday, Jan 26th - CAYA Parent Meeting Presentation + Rosters
Dear CAYA Families,
Thanks again to those who attended the meeting on
Thursday evening. We have received a tremendous amount of support for these
changes and we are excited to for the spring season to begin.
to view the PowerPoint presentation from Thursday evening’s CAYA Parent Meeting.
It combines both age groups and provides a basic overview of the plans for the
spring.
Click HERE to view the GAME rosters for the spring season. As explained training groups will be different. Please keep in mind that players develop at vastly varying rates. Over the years I have seen players go from the 3rd team at U11 classic go on to make ECNL teams and boys who were the best player in the age group at U11 lose all motivation and drop out of the game because others caught them and surpassed them in ability. Players develop at vastly varying rates and it is unfair to compare them to other players as this young age. It is expected that as kids they will say “well why does that player get this or he/she get that? However, as adults we must steer them on the right path and explain that it is consistent hard work and application over time that allows to work towards fulfilling our potential.
Please note players included in the NCYSA YA academy pool for the spring who were not YA players in the fall MUST complete the NCYSA waiver and get to your regional director by Thursday's practice at the latest. The waiver form can be found on the left side of the blog.
FAQ's

FAQ's
How do the
mixed/balanced teams work?
The tiered training format from this fall worked well and
feel strongly that players of similar abilities should train together in order
to be develop. We will continue with this method as the main format for
training. However, we will also utilize other formats too in order to keep
training fun and engaging for the players. The game structure from the fall we
felt was lacking in terms of competition. Our young players are being tested
and challenged in practice but not in the games. We want to shift away from the
team centric mentality that was developing and shine the spot light on individual
improvement. The new format for the spring will see players competing against
players whom they may consider their equal and will now have to find ways of
winning the 1v1 battles, while helping their teammates to be successful. It is
a relatively easy prospect to run out on to a field with a lot of good players
and play against a lower level team. Everyone does their jobs and you are fine.
We are trying to create an environment whereby the
players determine their own destiny and hopefully experience some success and
some failure, which is vital to growth. Each player’s performance in training
and games will determine the group within which they train in on a weekly basis. We have
flexibility in training to monitor, adjust and create environments for players
to grow and be challenged.
Below are answers to some FAQ's that hopefully will help paint a better picture of the spring changes.
I am concerned
my child playing with players of a lesser ability will affect their
development?
The fall system limited our player’s opportunities since
we were so team centric. We feel our players need to be challenged and have
different experiences because they are so young. Just being on a winning team that
runs up the score on their opponents, may feel good, but is not the best thing
for all of those players. By creating
balanced teams, players will need to find more ways of impacting the game and
helping their team to be successful. The
goal is to bring more out of our players naturally by creating the right
environment for them to be successful and also learn from their mistakes.
Why do you wait to tell us about these changes when we have already registered?
With the re-registration process for CAYA we are unable to proactively plan ahead until we know who is and is not returning. The CAYA staff have spent a lot of time and effort evaluating and trying to find areas to improve the environment for our young players to have fun, work hard and grow on and off the field.
Will all of the
current North U10 White team be promoted to NCYSA YA?
There will be a pool of 27 players. There were 24 players
in the North U10 boy’s pool and this number will only increase slightly due to
the change in format (8v8 to 7v7) and desire to put players in the best
possible environment developmentally. This will see the strongest players from
the North U10 White Boys team being added into the NCYSA YA.
Will there be any
spring tournaments for U9/U10 CAYA teams?
None of our CAYA teams will be playing in tournaments this
spring. We feel with the schedule we have put together from both a training and
game perspective will provide ample opportunities for our players. As they move
up the youth soccer ladder and get older there will be plenty of tournaments
for them.
How will you relay
the information to the players?
Rosters will be unveiled tonight (Monday, Jan 26th)
following practice via a link on the blog which will list each roster for the
spring season. The directors will speak to the players at practice to discuss
the changes and the reason for them. We understand that there will be players
who are disappointed and potentially upset. However, we would like to reiterate
that we have made these changes with each player’s best interests at heart.
There are two ways of looking at everything and we hope that our young players
will see the greater challenges that will be presented to them and embrace the
opportunity to try and conquer them.Thank you for your support of the program,

CAYA Update 1/23 - Spring Training Schedule + Other Info
Firstly, thank you to all those who attended last night’s
meeting. It was great to see so many families want to learn about the direction our program is
headed. Apologies for the lack of
space/seating and thank you for making it work as best as possible. It was
certainly not what we had planned for and so we greatly appreciate your
understanding.
We are excited about the spring and the direction the club
is headed. There are a number of things going on at the club behind the scenes
and there will be news of these things over the coming months. One thing I can
tell you is that we recently moved to an excellent new office location that
houses all our full time coaching directors and administrative staff. The new
address is 5017 Memory Rd, close to
the intersection of Milbrook and Falls of Neuse. Please make a note that we are
no longer located at Woman’s Club Dr. The new office will bring our club closer
together and allows us to better serve our members both on and off the field.
TRAINING NEXT WEEK
Quick reminder that we will have training on Monday AND
Thursday this week. The additional Thursday training is due to the cancelation
of training last week for MLK day. All South CAYA training will be conducted at Davis Dr for the time being.
See Thursday field assignments & times. Please note
slight change in time & field for U8/U9 north girls.

We have been made aware that a number of players will be
missing from futsal this weekend so there will be opportunities for players to
play in more than one game. If your son or daughter would like to try and play
a little more this weekend then please have your child speak to one of the
coaches to see if they need any extra players.
Also, with so many young boys and girls running around big
complexes please be aware of a few incidents that have been reported in the
local news, specifically in the Wake Forest area and most recently at The
Factory. Please click the following link to read the news story:
http://www.wral.com/another-incident-of-stranger-approaching-children-in-wake-forest-reported/14340731/.
Our players’ safety and wellbeing is vitally important and we hope everyone
will take note of these warnings.
