The soccer
world is a small world, as most of you know, but we can work together to do BIG
things. Ben Pinkerton was a goalkeeper
coach at CASL, and an assistant coach for the NCSU women’s soccer program, and
he now works as the National Director for SoccerPlus Goalkeeping School. He brought much experience and knowledge of
goalkeeping to both the CASL and NCSU programs, along with a huge personality and
passion for the game. You could see his
determination even in just the way that he walked. He trained his goalkeepers
with tons of energy and desire and always held his keepers to the highest
standards.
On
Wednesday, January 29th Ben was diagnosed with Stave IV Colon
Cancer. Him and his wife, former NCSU
soccer player Karla (Hutton) live in Wisconsin and are expecting their first
child on June 18th. You can
find more about his diagnosis and journey to fight this thing at the following
link:
Here at NC
State our Athletic Director, Debbie Yow, has made it clear to all staff and
employees that she values a family atmosphere through out our athletic
department. Being a tight knit family
was the first thing she mentioned at the new employee luncheon last week,
emphasizing how crucial it is for a department to work together to successfully
achieve dreams and goals.
That’s
exactly why we are sending this note out – in times of need it is important to
come together and help those who have been part of building this soccer
community in Raleigh. We would like to
do all we can to help him with medical bills so that his full focus can be on
fighting this horrible disease.
To raise
funds to help Ben, we are holding a free clinic on March 30th, 2014,
called “WOLFPACK BACKS PINKERTON.” The clinic is free, but we are asking each
participant to donate what he or she can to help Ben out. We will also be having a silent auction with
the following items:
·
NC State “Game Day” Experience: Chance for one kid to see what NCSU
game day is like. Eat pregame meal with
the team, come in the locker room, listen to pregame speech, help with warm-up,
and sit on the bench during one game during the fall of 2014. Find out what it is like to be a part of the
Pack!
