The festive period in England is littered with games.  To be exact teams will play 3 ferociously contested games in 6 days, having to train on Christmas day and have a quiet night in on New Year’s Eve. So please spare a thought for these millionaires over the festive period.
  • Friday, Dec 26th
  • Sunday, Dec 28th
  • Thursday, Jan 1st
Many other European countries take a winter break to preserve their players and ensure a high level of quality soccer in the spring. The intelligent brits on the other hand just keep rolling out there in the mud and going to war with each other. Anyway, it makes for good entertainment and I know I will be enjoying my fair share of games this Christmas. Starting with Liverpool vs. Arsenal on Sunday morning.

Futsal Update and NCAA College Cup Final Four

Just a quick note ahead of the weekend's futsal action. There are a number of folks missing this weekend due to various conflicts and therefore if your son or daughter is able to either come early or stick around for a second game they will more than likely be able to play with another group.

Futsal is new to many of the players and it may take many of them of time to the ball, the surface and playing with different players. However, it is a fun and exciting game and the kids should enjoy the change of scenery. Here are two links to some great futsal action that I recommend you share with your player. It might just inspire them that little bit more and also get their creative juices flowing for when they are out there.

Top 10 Goals : 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup
Falcao - The Brazilian Futsal Legend

Also, if you happen to capture any great futsal goals, individual bits of skill or great team play from the your players games please share with your regional director as we would love to pass along to the CASL family.

PLAY 4KAY 4V4
A number of families have mentioned the conflict with futsal and the Play 4Kay 4v4 soccer tournament to be held at WRAL Soccer Center on Saturday, Jan 10th. Click HERE more info. Just to be clear, we would love for as many folks as possible to support and take part in the tournament and all we ask is that you let us know. Unfortunately, with indoor space at a premium during the winter months the futsal dates we have scheduled were not flexible. We hope you understand and feel free to do whichever. Thank you!

CASL Shootout
The CASL Shootout is one of the marquee events in the southeast for  U11-U14 boys and girls players. Last week, was the girls weekend and it proved a great learning experience for each of the U10 teams as they played an age group up at U11. Special shout out to the U10 CAYA Black North Ladies who managed to avenge an opening game 4-2 loss to McClean by defeating them on PK's in the final of the U11 Premier Grey bracket.

It is the boys turn this weekend as the U10 CAYA boys teams and U11-U14 CASL classic teams will compete at various venues throughout Greater Raleigh against top quality opposition from up and down the east coast. If you are interested in checking out the action, please visit the following link:
http://soccer.sincsports.com/TTContent.aspx?tid=CASL2&dfix=Y

ECNL
The U16 and U17 CASL ECNL teams are in Phoenix, AZ this weekend taking part in a showcase event. However, fear not as the U14 ECNL will take on Richmond United for the second weekend running. The two teams played last weekend in the final of top U14 bracket of the CASL shootout with CASL coming out on top in PK's after a hard fought game, which included six goals and lots of quality soccer. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15, 5:30pm kickoff on WRAL Travers Lasik. Should be another cracker!

Finally, I shared with you a little info on the FA Cup. It didn't go well for my team but was a great cup tie none the less. Here are the highlights of 98th best team in England taking on 58th best team on a lovely sunny day in Yorkshire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXWIQH2JrCY

CAYA REMINDERS/UPDATES 11/7

CAYA Cup
Thank you to everyone all for your understanding last week regarding the last minute cancellation of the CAYA Cup. We were really saddened to have to cancel the event as a lot of time and effort went into trying to create a fun filled soccer event for everyone involved. We are looking at rescheduling the day for pre-season in the spring as a great way to get things kicked off in style. More info to come.

Reminders:

  • Thursday, 11/6 was the last training session for the U9 boys & girls and U10 girls for November.
  • ONLY the U10 boys will train next week in preparation for the Boys CASL Shootout.
  • We will resume training in December, BUT will only train on Monday, 12/1, 12/8 and 12/15. There will be no Thursday training.
  • Futsal will begin on Saturday's in December and will be held on 12/6, 12/13. 12/20. (Schedule to come).

CAYA Spring Registration
We hope that both you and your player have enjoyed the fall season and want to continue with the CAYA program moving into the spring. The staff  are excited about the upcoming winter training sessions and futsal games. We are continually looking to further the program and currently we are trying to put a lot of planning in place so we can improve a number of things moving into the spring season. With that said we would like to encourage you to do one of two things:

  1. RETURNING: Please register for the spring season by clicking HERE. By registering ASAP this allows the CAYA staff to plan and prepare accordingly given those players who are returning for the spring season.
  2. NOT RETURNING: Please communicate your player's decision with your area director. Your child will still be able to participate for the remainder of 2014 season up until the end of this calendar year, including the winter Monday training sessions and futsal games in December. Your decision and honesty will be respected and greatly appreciated as it will allow us to plan accordingly given the number of players within the program.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

The FA Cup - First Round
The FA Cup is the oldest domestic cup competition in the world and this weeked marks the first round proper for the 2014/2015 season. There have been four qualifying rounds that have taken place so far. The competition contains teams semi-professional teams in the early rounds and as the competition progresses bigger teams enter, with the likes of Chelsea and Man City coming into the mix in the fourth round but teams like Man Utd, who are not in European competition will enter in the 3rd round, 736 teams in total are set to compete in this year's competition. The highlights for this weekend are my team FC Halifax Town taking on local rivals Bradford City. The teams are 3 divisions apart with my team being part-timers and getting the chance to make a name of themselves. This game will be shown on Fox Soccer Plus

England just like the US, loves an underdog and there are not too many competitions where everyday people get the opportunity to compete against superstars. Here is a player by player guide on Warrington Town, one of many non-league teams hoping to cause an upset again higher opposition. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/29839201. Wouldn't it be great to see some students, a pizza delivery guy and a window cleaner take on the mega rich superstars of Chelsea in a few rounds...

Best of luck to all the teams this weekend!

CAYA Cup Schedule Changes + Weather Info

Hopefully, you have all received the plan for the weekend. If your child was not included in the rosters please let us know so we can ensure we are all squared away. We are at the mercy of mother nature unfortunately with regards to the weather for Saturday. A lot of planning and preparation has gone into this event and we will keep everything crossed that the forecast improves. However, right now it is slated to be cold, wet and windy (15-25 mph winds). With the forecast in mind we have made some adjustments to the schedule:
  • Shortened the games/times slots by 5 mins so games will now be 20 mins in length with 5 mins allotted to switch teams over.
  • Removed the break, whereby teams didn't play 3 games in a row. By shortening the games we feel it is fine to go back to back to back, especially as the teams have subs. This will allow families to be out in the cold and wet for 90 mins tops.
  • PLEASE NOTE: we will continue to monitor the weather and will post an update on the blog by 8am Saturday morning at the latest. However, if the forecast looks terrible word may come sooner. Please check http://caslcaya.blogspot.com/ before leaving for the fields to be sure.
Format/Rules:
5v5 (4v4 plus Goalkeepers)
20 minute games. No halftime
25 minute time slots with kickoffs on the horn
Keeper can't punt
Kick ins instead of throw ins
All free kicks are indirect
No corners - goalkeepers ball
No offside rule
Penalties taken from 8yds
Substitutions on the fly (every 5 mins)

Attire:
Players are advised to layer up and wear their normal CAYA game day stuff. Please be sure sure to bring BOTH jerseys.

ENVIRONMENT AND GOALS FOR THE DAY:
This should be a fun filled day for the players with our goal to provide a break from their “team” play. This is an opportunity to play with some different players in an action packed format. Please remember that this event is for the players. It is their opportunity to take charge and own their game. The coaches will not be “coaching” but instead facilitating an environment whereby the players can compete and enjoy the beautiful game. Please try to help us promote the CASL values of Character, Attitude, Success and Love of the Game.
